Saw Opeth and Enslaved in Boston Saturday. It was good as far as the music goes. The new House of Blues is very nice, much better than the Avalon used to be. The acoustics were great, the sound was the best I've heard. The stage is nice and high so whereever you are in the place you can pretty much see (unless you're short).
Enslaved was boring.... I'm not really a fan of folkish black metal type stuff. It was just really drab and droning with the clean vocals. Kjellsons vocals are good, its the keyboardist's vocals who really turned me off.
Opeth was great. But people were constantly moshing like it was a crossover/grindcore/death metal act. It's OPETH! This is prog. It just felt real forced and inappropriate.
Anyways they played a song from almost every album I think. Songs I remember hearing....Credence, Hessian Peel, Lotus Eater, The Leper Affinity, Heir Apparent, Godhead's Lament (favorite song of the night), closure, Ghost of Perdition, the encore was Deliverance which was sweet.
So this tuesday, I'm going to see the No Fear Music Tour (Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, As I lay dying, God Forbid). Now, I've been on the record as saying the only reason I'm going is for Municipal Waste. I've never seen them and I think they'll be fun and intense. The rest I've either seen before or is just awful (As I lay dying). I'll probably just hit the bar after MW.
If there was a decent amount of action during Opeth/Enslaved, I'm sure this show will be crazy. Especially with Municipal Waste as only the 2nd act...
Swine Flu.....ftl. I think like 1 American has dyed of this stupid thing. Do people realize that tens of thousands die of the regular flu yearly?!?! Because it doesn't seem like it. You can't go 15 minutes without someone crying of the swine flu, or there are 10 more cases of the swine flu in minnesota....who cares?
